LEADing the Way to the Future

Mission

LEAD Southern Maryland empowers,inspires and provides the tools to enable teens to reach their full potentialas leaders, establishing a connection with their community through leadership,experience, advocacy and discipline.
History
LEAD was formed in partnership withLeadership Southern Maryland and Maryland Leadership    Workshops, combining over 50 years oftraining and experience. The program is staffed by young professionals withvarious backgrounds in education, youth services, business, law and studentorganizations, as well as senior high school peer counselors.
Program
LEAD reaches out to rising 10, 11,and 12th grade students in the Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s   county areas, with a capacity to enroll 65delegates. The program is held each year on the beautiful campus of St. Mary’sCollege of Maryland, located in historic St. Mary’s City. Students are housedin the dorms, take their meals in the campus cafeteria and attend workshops inthe various classrooms and auditoriums on campus, giving the delegate anopportunity to experience campus life as well as learn life changing leadershipskills. Topics include but are not limited to Self-Awareness, Group Dynamics,Project Planning and Diversity.
Outreach
LEAD is under the sponsorship and guidance of Leadership Southern Maryland, allowing it to combine its vast network of mentors and leaders with the needs of the community. LEAD and LSM will be partnering to provide delegates with community service opportunities and Legacy Project involvement.
 
 
Our Partners
               LEAD is sponsored by Leadership Southern Maryland, receiving partial funding for program costs as well as a number of scholarships. Our ability to grow LEAD and reach delegates throughout the tri-county region is provided in part by support from our partners such as The Patuxent Partnership, SMECO, College of Southern Maryland, St. Mary’s College of Maryland and Rotary International, along with private donations.
