Visionary Leadership: Meet Mark De Luca and Holmes-Tucker International, Inc.

CEO / President Robert R. "Bob" Pastusek and Mark De Luca
Mark De Luca is a graduate of the LSM Class of 2010 and the board’s treasurer.  Mark found out about LSM through his friend Ken Carkhuff, LSM Class of 2009.  After a 21 year career in the US Air Force, Mark and his family were finally able to settle in St Mary’s county in 2006 and Mark had wanted to find a way to make a real difference for his new home.  LSM seemed to be it.

From the very first day of the program, Mark was impressed with his classmates’ incredible talent and sincere commitment to the region.  Throughout the year, Mark was inspired by the opportunities and the potential of working collaboratively with his classmates to meet the challenges.  When offered the chance to serve on the board he jumped on it.  Prior to graduation, Mark worked with his classmates to found the LSM Legacy Fund, the first endowment that serves the needs of the entire region, and over the ensuing two years worked with the Community Foundation of Charles County as it transformed into the Community Foundation of Southern Maryland.

Mark is committed to building LSM’s relationships with other community stakeholders and to ensuring LSM continues to provide the premier leadership program for others who desire to ensure that Southern Maryland continues to be a great place to live and work.

Mark is a systems engineer for Holmes-Tucker International, Inc., a small, employee-owned business that provides systems engineering, requirements management, test information management and ship/shore aviation requirements management for the Navy.  LSM depends on the support of many stakeholders and from the beginning Holmes-Tucker has been wholeheartedly supportive, allowing Mark to take time from his customer to complete the course of instruction and later to serve on the board.  Appreciating the need for the region’s leaders to understand the challenges of the Dept. of Defense, and of the Navy in particular, the company is proud to sponsor the LSM Defense and Industry day and, although a small company with just 35 employees, is an LSM Visionary, the highest tier of support in the LSM Leadership Circle.

“Being a part of LSM is one of the smartest things I’ve ever done,” said Mark.  “And I’m grateful to my teammates at Holmes-Tucker for giving me that opportunity.”
