Wilson Parran Receives 2012 Heritage Award

Leadership Southern Maryland proudly honored Wilson H. Parran with its inaugural Heritage Award. The Heritage Award recognizes an individual or group from our region that has mastered leadership with a track record of collaborative and inclusive leadership, service by supporting meaningful innovation in their community and region, and mentoring through the fostering and motivating of professionals to elevate their potential. Wilson H. Parran, a life-long Calvert County resident and leader, exemplifies each of these traits at the regional level.

Meet our Executive Director

Helen Mattingly Wernecke assumed the Executive Director position at Leadership Southern Maryland in May 2014 shortly after retiring from the Department of the Navy with nearly 30 years of service. Over the course of her distinguished career where she earned a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resources, she held progressively challenging positions in the fields of Administration, Business & Financial Management, Human Capital & Learning, and Logistics, culminating in a senior leadership position in the Acquisition & Program Management of Aviation Training Systems. Helen is a lifetime member of Women In Defense (WID) and volunteers her time to Trinity Lutheran Church. Born and raised in Southern Maryland, Helen resides in Leonardtown with her husband Ray and their two children, Kate and Samuel.
