LSM Alum, Co-workers Raise Awareness & Funds For Those Battling Breast Cancer

Barry Friedman, LSM '09, and his co-workers at Primary Residential Mortgage Inc. kicked off a 'This One's For The Girls' initiative to raise awareness and donations to support the battle against breast cancer back in October. The team used their company Facebook page to raise funds and support The Red Devils, Inc., an organization which helps improve the quality of life for families experience the hardships of this health crisis right here in Southern Maryland.

This latest local, charitable endeavor is among many the PRMI staff have undertaken which result in a direct and tremendous impact, as well as drawing interest to the Red Devils organization and their partnership with MedStar St. Mary's and Calvert Memorial hospitals.

Meet our Executive Director

Helen Mattingly Wernecke assumed the Executive Director position at Leadership Southern Maryland in May 2014 shortly after retiring from the Department of the Navy with nearly 30 years of service. Over the course of her distinguished career where she earned a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resources, she held progressively challenging positions in the fields of Administration, Business & Financial Management, Human Capital & Learning, and Logistics, culminating in a senior leadership position in the Acquisition & Program Management of Aviation Training Systems. Helen is a lifetime member of Women In Defense (WID) and volunteers her time to Trinity Lutheran Church. Born and raised in Southern Maryland, Helen resides in Leonardtown with her husband Ray and their two children, Kate and Samuel.
